may in flowers

hello everyone. life marchest on and the inexhaustible roar continues. lots of listening and music making lately!

sewer system stuff I bought from oxen

sewer system - EXTINCTSTENCIAL PREVIOULENCE / DEIAVOWS ANTHROPOGENOCIDAL IMPURPOSE
some fucking wild noisecore from Sissy Spacek drummer Charlie Mummas's brain. this features SS's John Wiese as well (plus others) but honestly feels tangibly different, more grimy and gory than the usual bizarre abstraction of Spacek even though I couldn't really put my finger on the precise differences. the live stuff that comprises the back half of the album is wonderful too. I really like the usual sewer system titling scheme of making weird portmanteau / spoonerisms out of misanthropic thesaurus words, it feels very true to how tons of metal bands name shit (especially death metal bands) taken to a wacky extreme, very funny.

Systemic Sewage / Unsustainable Social Condition - All Available Weaponry
this older one is more straight harsh noise with some free grind drumming coming in an out rather than noisecore - a mail collab and also fairly successful. great tape grime and feedback, basement dwelling treble noise sounds. very satisfying.

free jazz korner

thoth trio - three
this came out in march. pittsburgh legend Ben Opie leads this small group which also features David Throckmorton who is a guy I genuinely have reverence for as a musician. I've seen them play a few times live and it's always wonderful. they sound great on record as well, very energetic and precise.

sam weinberg - do it as it sounds it
Sam Weinberg, who I found out about initially thanks to his work with Zs, is a great composer and saxophonist. This is a collection of solo live and home recordings demonstrating his great, cerebral post-Braxton style. lines winding and unfolding around themselves in really fascinating systemic ways. a great listen, really captivating and a worthy contribution to the solo sax album canon, which is an acquired taste as a form for most people but I dig it.
